Halliday's 2010 Wine Companion rates Barambah:

First Grid Chardonnay 2008
Very well-made, the barrel ferment oak perfectly integrated and balanced with the stone fruit and melon flavours of the chardonnay; good length.
Screwcap.
13% alc.
Rating 92

First Grid Semillon 2008
Early picking has preserved green grassy aromas and flavours, allied with apple and a touch of gooseberry; perhaps a little too green, or the acid too evident.

Restoration of 170-year-old outback Queensland property

17th Aug 09

ABC Radio National

Steve and Jane Wilson have owned Barambah property, near Goomeri in outback Queensland, since 2000. Since then they have developed a master plan to restore the property, the worksheds and the large rambling Queenslander owned over time by prominent families such as the Vesteys, the Moores and the Crowes. The restoration project by Riddell Architecture, with architect David Gole, has now been completed and recently won two important awards, the Australian Institute of Architects, Queensland, Architecture Award for Heritage, and the inaugural 2009 Gabriel Poole Award for the Building of the Year. The Wilson's vision is that this development of Barambah be part of a larger development of the local region (wines, food produce, tourism)

First Grid Semillon

2008 Special Release

This wine is a special release as not all years produce such exceptional fruit. Beginning the season, 2008 vintage experienced very moderate weather, with the required rainfall and cool breezes flowing over a vineyard on a 370 metre plateau west of the Great Divide.

Unwooded and low in alcohol, this wine lends itself to good cellaring, or drink now to enjoy flavours of gooseberries, green apples and a clean, fresh, citrus finish. Well suited to spicy salads and fresh seafoods.
